BRIEF: New job training funds available

Mar 15, 2013 (The Record-Eagle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- TRAVERSE CITY -- Qualified regional employers who want to expand their workforce can apply to access $500,000 in training funds through Northwestern Michigan College's Training Services division through March 31.

Money is available through the New Jobs Training Program, passed by the Michigan Legislature in 2008. The program provides funding for organizations to pay for staff development in new positions. The jobs must pay above $12.95 per hour.

The companies pay for the training, which NMC provides, and are reimbursed over time as payroll tax dollars are diverted.

NMC currently has seven agreements in place. Five were approved in December 2012 and will create a total of 62 new jobs.

NMC's Training Services division offers customized training opportunities including leadership and team building. For more information, call Rich Wolin at 995-2003 or email him at rwolin@nmc.edu.
