United States : ORACLE eyes NIMBULA [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oracle is planning to acquire a cloud infrastructure software provider, Nimbula.

The company, which was co-founded by Chris Pinkham, a primary Amazon Web Services architect, develops what it calls a cloud operating system, Nimbula Director, which orchestrates and handles the functions of a public cloud, including provisioning, tracking and chargeback of cloud workloads.

One possible implication of the acquisition is to bring Oracle in line with the open source cloud software, OpenStack, as one of Nimbula's latest moves was to convert Director into an orchestrator of OpenStack components.

Exactly the way Nimbula will be merged with the Oracle product line isn't clear at the moment, although Oracle said it will be "integrated into the Oracle's cloud offering" and was "complementary to Oracle.
