Inexpensive Android tablets [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]

(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ANDROID tablet makers are finding a niche where Apple refuses to tread, and that is making available tablets at a price range that will allow just about anyone to own one. Lower-priced Google-driven Android models, especially those with smaller screen (8-inch and below) are most sought after as these devices are much more portable and ideal for content consumption.

It is also a choice for parents wanting to equip their children with a tablet as a portable learning and play device.

These inexpensive Android tablets, available from original computer makers as well as white box Chinese manufacturers, work just as well as their high-end cousins. Among them, Acer's Iconia B1 (see review below) launched early this year is seeing a lot of demand and the company plans to roll out more affordable tablets later this year.

International Data Corporation (IDC) estimates the worldwide tablet market to reach 191 million this year and the Android-based tablets (which began expanding last year) to have a bigger share with 48.8 per cent, compared with 41.5 per cent last year.

Here are a few 7-inch models to consider: Asus Memo Pad Launched in January, the Memo Pad runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Primarily made of plastic, it measures 11.2mm thin and weighs in at 370g. The 7-inch display supports 10-finger multi-touch. The tablet PC comes with the 512MB for the RAM and an extendable Nand flash drive with storage space of up to 8GB. It has a five-point touch screen, WiFi support and front camera. The Ainol Novo 7 Legend model is available in white.
