Samsung confirms they're working on a smartwatch - News [T-break Tech (Middle East)]
(T-break Tech (Middle East) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) In an interview in Seoul, Samsung's executive VP of the mobile division, Lee Young Hee confirmed that they're working on a smartwatch. " We've been preparing the watch product for so long. We are working very hard to get ready for it, " said Lee. " We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them ." Unfortunately no further details were given about the name of the smartwatch, nor any release schedule. However, given that he mentioned the long development time, we should expect it out pretty soon. The OS being run on the watch isn't mentioned either, but one would expect some form of Android only so that the smartwatch can seamlessly sync with Samsung's Galaxy line of smartphones. It's nice to see one company confirm rumors for a change rather than keeping mum about everything under development, like the Apple iWatch. " The race is on to redesign the mobile phone into something that you wear ," said Marshal Cohen, an analyst at NPD Group. " We're going to see formidable competition coming from many different directions -- from device makers, accessory makers, even fashion designers. " " The issue here is who will first commercialize it so consumers can use it meaningfully, " Samsung's Lee told Bloomberg .
