du unblocks Skype calls - News [T-break Tech (Middle East)]
(T-break Tech (Middle East) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) du has lifted its ban from using Microsoft's popular VOIP service Skype, The National reports. du subscribers can now access and download the Skype application, buy credits, and call landlines and mobile phones with their Skype account. It is unclear if the unblock is permanent, as apparently this is not the first time the service was made available, but was blocked soon after. We can confirm that Skype indeed works at the time of writing. I tried calling my colleague Nick Rego's mobile from a Skype account and it worked just alright (sound quality wasn't the best). We did not try buying Skype credits, however. We have contacted du for an official statement. We will update this space if we receive a reply. Skype is still blocked on Etisalat, unfortunately.
