Metric Systems Launches Next Generation Rhino Box®, a Mission-Critical, Environmentally-Controlled Equipment Enclosure
VISTA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--
Metric Systems Corporation, (www.metricsystems.com)
a manufacturer of industrial grade, mission-critical end-to-end
communications and deployment solutions, today announced the
availability of its second generation Rhino Box (News - Alert) rugged enclosure aimed
at supporting critical communication and IT equipment in harsh weather
and challenging deployment scenarios.

The second generation Rhino Box offers features and climatic control
technology extending the range of operating scenarios including arctic
(-30°F/-34°C), desert/arid (160°F/71°C), and equatorial/humid
conditions. An embedded processor maintains up to a 1000 Watt internal
equipment thermal load to within 5 degrees of ambient temperature,
surpassing recommended operating conditions of commercial and industrial
equipment. The next-generation Rhino Box incorporates the followng
standard technologies:
-
Redundant Two Stage Heat Exchange System Operation:
-
In hot environments, eight (8) independent, high CFM
processor-controlled intake and exhaust fans continuously exchange
internal heat-laden air with cooler ambient air to maintain an
optimal temperature margin for internal equipment.
-
In cold environments (-30°F/-34°C) processor-controlled redundant
internal fans circulate internal and external air to maintain a
safe internal operating environment.
-
Power flexibility
-
All-weather, highly efficient Aerogel insulation
-
Provides up to nineteen (19) times the thermal resistance of
standard insulation, reducing solar energy transmission and
internal heat loss.
-
Integrated Wire and Wireless Connectivity:
-
Local, secure wireless and remote WAN gateway for remote
monitoring and control.
"In the field our customers operate in extreme environments. They rely
upon the Rhino Box to provide the site shelter and connectivity needed
to successfully carry out their business mission," said Bill Brown, CEO
of Metric Systems. "Rhino's next generation structural and connectivity
enhancements strengthen our commitment to provide an affordable and
effective solution for supporting temporary and long-term field
operations."
The Rhino Box was initially developed for the U.S. Customs and Border
Protection Agency as a tool to economically stage, test, deploy and
operate mission critical communications in a smooth and manageable
process, without the need for specialized fixed or temporary shelters,
thus reducing operation and capital costs.
"The Rhino Box has been field-proven by the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security on the U.S.-Mexico/Canadian border," added Brown.
On-site enclosure maintenance is unnecessary because Rhino Box's
internal status is monitored and controlled via a local wired or
wireless connection using a network capable PC, Smart Phone (News - Alert) or tablet,
like an iPad. A WAN connection enables the Rhino to be monitored and
controlled from anywhere in the world. Built with a field-tested
high-impact, thick-skinned polyurethane case, enclosures range from 5U
to 14U. For a majority of applications, the 12U and 9U Rhino Boxes are
the most popular solution with custom options available to meet almost
any need.
