Mar 21, 2013 (The Virginian-Pilot - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
VIRGINIA BEACH -- A sheriff's deputy discovered a fire Wednesday afternoon in a neighborhood where he was serving a warrant.
The deputy controlled the fire at the single-family dwelling in the 1900 block of Blue Knob Road until fire units arrived about 1:15 p.m., said Battalion Chief Patrick Seigh, a Fire Department spokesman.
About 18 firefighters responded to the blaze, and the fire was out by 1:40 p.m., Seigh said. The fire was discovered in a garage, which sustained moderate damage.
The deputy was in the neighborhood off Centerville Turnpike serving a warrant at a different address, Seigh said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
