Suspect questioned in three robberies on Broadway
Mar 21, 2013 (The Wichita Eagle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Wichita police are interviewing a man suspected of robbing three businesses on Broadway late Wednesday and early Thursday.
An armed man robbed the Sonic at 1235 N. Broadway at 10 p.m. Thursday, Lt. Doug Nolte said. He demanded that the two employees inside the business give him money, then went across the street and met up with a second person in the parking lot of K.C. Gas and Grocery.
They then walked south around the Mark 8 Hotel. Officers searched the area but did not find the two men, Nolte said.
Shortly before 5 a.m. Thursday, a man matching the description of the Sonic robber went into the QuikTrip at 2010 S. Broadway, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded money, Nolte said. He left with the cash and went north on Broadway.
Officers following up on the case found a wallet north of the convenience store that had identification inside, Nolte said.
"That ID matched our suspect's description," he said.
Just after 8 a.m. Thursday, a man walked into the Spangles at 612 S. Broadway, pointed a gun at an employee and demanded money. He received cash and left the restaurant on foot, Nolte said.
Officers responded soon enough to catch the man not far from the Spangles. He's being questioned about the robberies and may well be booked into the Sedgwick County Jail later Thursday.
"There's a lot of work to be done by detectives that will go on," Nolte said.
Among the questions they'll try to answer is if a second person is involved in the crimes.
