(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Ugandan court dismisses tax evasion case against MTN executivesA Ugandan court has dismissed a tax fraud case against 13 senior executives of South Africa-based telecoms group MTN due to lack of evidence, MTN said in a statement on its website. The Director of Public Prosecutions has withdrawn the court case based on the fact that there is no evidence to prosecute, MTN said, adding that the Chief Magistrate of the Buganda Road Court had formally accepted the withdrawal of the case, bringing to end all matters related to the tax allegations against the MTN Uganda executives. CEO Sifiso Dabengwa, Board Chairman Charles Mbiire and 11 other senior officials at MTN Uganda were due to face charges of tax evasion and conspiracy to make false customs declarations, according to a summons issued by the Buganda Road Court on November 7, 2012. MTN is the biggest mobile operator in Uganda.
