Stolen memories

LENOIR, May 03, 2013 (News-Topic - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- She was gone from her house only 25 minutes. In that short time, Jennifer Grace lost her phones, her jewelry and her peace of mind.

And worst, shot lost a dear reminder of her late husband. It was in a jewelry box that contained 20 pairs of earrings -- and a pair of wedding bands.

"What is so sad is one of the rings was my late husband's," she said.

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Thomas Grace, spent 18 years on active duty and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. He died Jan. 18, 2012, in what was ruled a suicide but is still being investigated.

Jennifer Grace will never get her husband back. She just wants the rings recovered.

And she wants the person responsible behind bars.

"I'm tired of people stealing," she said. "I know we're all having a hard time." Grace lives between two cul-de-sacs in a quiet neighborhood in rural Lenoir. Crime is low, she says, and "nobody has business back there unless they live there." Her neighbors have security cameras, which she says may help with the capture of the person responsible.

"I was gone from 1:30 to 1:54 p.m. (on Wednesday)," she said. "I came home and was playing a game on my phone, waiting on my kids to get home from school. One of my children noticed a tablet (computer) was missing. I then found two more cellphones were missing, and realized we had been broken into." Anyone with information is asked to call the Lenoir Police Department at 828-757-2100 or Lenoir/Caldwell Crime Stoppers at 828-758-8300.
