BRIEF: Modesto stabbing victim says her attacker was a stranger

MODESTO, Jun 06, 2013 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A woman who was stabbed this week said Wednesday that she didn't know her attacker.

Shannon Dick said the assault occurred at her friend's house in west Modesto on Monday, but it was a visitor of her friend's roommate who stabbed her. Modesto police said Dick was stabbed by a friend after an argument.

"The woman was high on drugs, delusional and apparently believed I had spoken some kind of confrontational words to her," Dick said.

A physical fight ensued, and Dick said she pinned the woman down and then they went separate ways in the house. Dick said she was about to leave her friend's home when the woman attacked her from behind with a kitchen knife.

"I tripped over the kitchen threshold and fell down," Dick said. "She was stabbing furiously and she landed a blow to my thigh and sank that knife bone-deep." Dick said the woman also stabbed her in the foot, underarm and elbow.

Police identified the suspect as 30-year-old Loisa Herrera. She is described as Latina, 5 feet tall and 130 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information on Herrera or her whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers at (209) 521-4636. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward.
