Turlock's Wal-Mart grocery store ready to hire

TURLOCK, Jun 12, 2013 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The new Wal-Mart store has hung up the "help wanted" sign.

The Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market set to fill the empty Mervyn's building on Geer Road opened a hiring center this week near the site. The center, at 2101 Geer Road, Suite 107, will help to hire up to 95 employees needed to staff the 24-hour store.

The Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, under construction at 2480 Geer Road, will be part of the giant retailer's grocery chain offshoot. Neighborhood Market stores offer an assortment of fresh and dry goods, produce, meats, dairy, household supplies and pharmacy services.

The county's first Neighborhood Market opened in Modesto in September.

The temporary hiring center, down the block from the Wal-Mart site, is accepting applications for full- and part-time positions. Some 65 to 95 employees are expected to begin work in July to help prepare the store for its grand opening in late summer.

Applications are accepted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. Interested applicants also may apply online at http://careers.walmart.com.

"We are excited to add the first Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market to Turlock and bring good jobs with great career opportunities to the area," store manager Everton Lira said in a written statement.

Through Wal-Mart's Veterans Welcome Home Commitment, the company will offer a job to any qualified veteran who has been honorably discharged from active duty within the past 12 months. Interested veterans can find out more at http://walmartcareers-withamission.com.
