Berkeley College Online One of the First to Be Certified Worldwide for Excellence by the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA)

New York, NY, Jun 27, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) -- Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College, is pleased to announce that Berkeley College Online has received Quality Standards (QS) certification for excellence from the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA). Berkeley College is one of the first colleges or universities worldwide to receive this certification. Institutions that receive USDLA/QS certification have been evaluated using 124 standards that focus on the areas of administration; leadership and management; student affairs; and teaching and learning. Certification is awarded for a five-year period, subject to performance and annual renewal.

"Receiving USDLA Quality Standards certification signifies that Berkeley College is committed to excellence in online learning and teaching, and demonstrates that our online programs adhere to high academic standards and rigor," Dr. Cortes said. "I am especially proud of the positive remarks from the reviewers about the support for the Berkeley College Online faculty, and the responsiveness to students by both the faculty and professional support services staff." Earlier this year Berkeley College celebrated the 15th anniversary of its innovative online learning and teaching program. The online program has flourished since Berkeley College first began offering online courses in 1998 and accredited online degrees in 2003. Nearly 2,700 students are enrolled in online programs. Berkeley College Online offers more than 250 online courses each quarter.

The USDLA is a nonprofit organization formed in 1987 and located in Boston, MA. The organization promotes the development and application of distance learning for education and training and serves the needs of the distance learning community by providing advocacy, information, networking and opportunity.

A leader in business education for more than 80 years, Berkeley College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and enrolls more than 7,700 students -- including over 800 international students -- in its Baccalaureate and Associate degree programs. The College has three New York locations -- Midtown Manhattan, Brooklyn and White Plains. In New Jersey there are four locations -- Woodland Park, Paramus, Woodbridge and Newark. Berkeley College Online also offers full degree programs. Programs are offered in more than 20 career fields. The website address is http://www.berkeleycollege.edu.
