Although there is a free, ad-supported version for both iPhones and Android, this is one of those apps you shouldn't feel bad for buying. MEME 2013 Audio Workshops ó bit.ly/meme_workshop More than just a multi-day free festival in the heart of the Exchange, the Manitoba Electronic Music Exhibition (MEME) also explores the interplay between technology, visual art and music. Set for Aug. 15-18 at the Cube and various venues around town, the festival continues to expand its focus and programming.

Since its inception, a strong component of MEME has been its collaboration with Manitoba Music and Precursor Productions to deliver audio training for individuals who want to explore the creation of electronic music. For $25, enthusiasts are mentored during the daylong workshop by local electronic producers and international guests who are performing at the festival. This inexpensive introduction to production should be appealing to a broad range of Manitobans, from aspiring producers looking to get tips from world-class performers to individuals looking to create their own music. The workshop takes place at Manitoba Music, 1-376 Donald St., on Saturday, Aug. 17. The deadline to register online is Aug. 16. Spots are limited, so don't wait too long or you'll miss out on this opportunity.

Stream of the Week: Don Amero -- Young Forever ó bit.ly/don_amero Set to make his mainstage debut at Dauphin's annual Countryfest on June 29, local singer/songwriter Don Amero is also releasing a new radio single this week. From his critically acclaimed fourth album, Heart On My Sleeve, which was nominated for both a 2013 Juno and a 2013 Western Canadian Music Award, Young Forever, is the latest single from the hardworking Amero and is a reflection on getting older. A video for Young Forever is available on YouTube.

Video of the Week: Greg MacPherson -- Forcefield ó bit.ly/gmac_forcefield With a performance scheduled for June 28 at The Windsor, Winnipeg's Greg MacPherson recently unveiled a new music video for the track Forcefield. After working with Nicholas Friesen and Rod Bailey on his first two videos, MacPherson and his band decided to shoot their new video themselves on an iPhone. While the singer's other two videos were top-notch (head over to YouTube if you haven't seen them), the DIY video they shot for Forcefield while on tour in British Columbia is both picturesque and well executed.
