(Newcastle Journal (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SUCH was the popularity of the late Graeme Douglas that the De Vere sponsored charity golf day in his memory has only four places left, even though both courses are being used at Slaley Hall on Wednesday.

Golf and dinner for four players costs Pounds 120 and anyone who wants to enter a team for the Noon shotgun start should contact Arthur Turnbull on 07785 328475 or [email protected] Douglas, a former captain in the merchant navy, was the golf services manager at Slaley.

Jon Bevan, from the Rhos on Sea club in Llandudno, has been made vice-captain of the Great Britain & Ireland team to play America in the PGA Cup at De Vere Slaley Hall on September 20-22. The US have won the last three contests.
