BRIEF: Glastonbury High School Student Killed In Crash

GLASTONBURY, Jul 15, 2013 (The Hartford Courant - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Hundreds gathered for a memorial service Sunday night in a tearful tribute to a Glastonbury High School student who died Sunday morning.

Jane Modlesky would have been a senior at the high school in the fall. She was on the lacrosse team, and friends Sunday said she was an outgoing and well-liked member of the community.

"For me she was that person I could always go to for advice," said Cate Sweeney, 16.

"I am so proud to call her my friend," Sweeney said. "She was just such an amazing person." Modlesky died about 5:30 a.m. Sunday on Woodhaven Road after the SUV she was driving collided with a tree. Police would not confirm the identity of the driver of the vehicle Sunday night, but said the female victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Friends identified Modlesky as the victim.

At the memorial service at St. Dunstan Church, classmates, family and friends gathered to pray and honor Modlesky. The town of Glastonbury was offering grief counseling to students on Sunday night.

"Jane was everyone's best friend," said Morgan Tiroff, 16. "She stood up for what she believed in." ___ (c)2013 The Hartford Courant (Hartford, Conn.) Visit The Hartford Courant (Hartford, Conn.) at www.courant.com Distributed by MCT Information Services
