BRIEF: PUC considers fines for two electricity marketers [The Morning Call (Allentown, Pa.)]
(Morning Call (Allentown, PA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 16--Two electricity marketers that sell to local power customers may face fines from state regulators for deceptive practices.
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission Thursday announced proposed penalties for IDT Energy and AP Gas & Electric, both of which are accused of switching customers' electricity suppliers without their consent and of fraudulent, deceptive or unlawful sales and marketing practices.
The fines are included in proposed settlements with the companies, neither of which have admitted wrongdoing.
IDT Energy, which markets energy statewide, faces a $39,000 fine. AP Gas & Electric, which markets only to FirstEnergy customers locally, faces a $43,200 fine.
As part of the settlements, both companies agreed to make a variety of changes in the way they report their activities to the Public Utility Commission and provide information to customers.
