ALEXANDRIA, Va., Aug. 17 -- LedEngin, San Jose, Calif., has been assigned a patent (8,507,300) developed by Yi Dong, Tracy, Calif., for a "light-emitting diode with light-conversion layer."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "A method for making a lighting apparatus includes providing a substrate and disposing a light-emitting diode overlying the substrate. The light-emitting diode has a top surface oriented away from the substrate and a plurality of side surfaces. A light-conversion material is provided that includes a substantially transparent base material and a wave-shifting material dispersed in the base material. The concentration of the wave-shifting material can be at least 30%. In an embodiment, the concentration of the wave-shifting material can be approximately 50% or 70%. A predetermined amount of the light-conversion material is deposited on the top surface of the light-emitting diode while the side surfaces are maintained substantially free of the light-conversion material."
The patent application was filed on Dec. 24, 2008 (12/344,158). The full-text of the patent can be found at http://patft.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PALL&p=1&u=%2Fnetahtml%2FPTO%2Fsrchnum.htm&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=85,07,300.PN.&OS=PN/85,07,300&RS=PN/85,07,300
