CAMPAIGN DRUMS UP STAR SUPPORT ; Send in your 'Brummies Are' snaps to win Virgin Media services for a year [Sunday Mercury (England)]
(Sunday Mercury (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) BIRMINGHAM rock legend Bev Bevan is backing Brum.
Because BRUMMIES ROCK. The ELO, Move and Black Sabbath drummer is the latest to join the Sunday Mercury's 'Brummies Are' campaign, which celebrates all things Brummie.
"Birmingham is a great city," says Bev. "Just look at all the great music this city has produced over the years - and continues to do so. "I'm proud to be a Brummie and to have taken the city's name around the world on tour."
The Mercury and our sister newspaper, the Birmingham Mail, joined forces to launch the campaign after a national survey suggested that the city was strictly second-rate, coming bottom in league tables for style, music, culture, architecture and accent.
We hit back, inviting readers to show the world that Brummies are brilliant - by sending us photos bearing the message: 'Brummies Are ...' The reader whose picture best embodies the Brummie spirit will receive the Virgin Media Premiere Collection FREE for a year.
Photos That's right, Virgin Media's brilliant broadband internet, TV and phone service for a whole year!
And there will also be a fantastic new mobile phone for a runner- up, courtesy of our good friends at Virgin Media.
Among the latest photos we've received is a brilliant team effort from staff at the McCann Birmingham public relations agency. "We're loving the Brummies are Brilliant campaign!" said account director Tom Grocott. "So much so that we felt compelled to join in." Analyst Ian Goodall from Virgin Media's compliance team at Eagle Court, Birmingham was quick to join in the fun, too.
"We all thing Brummies are brilliant," he said.
Other photos brought messages from Sinead Law and Holly Marshall, who reckoned Brummies are bright, bubbly and happy.
Meanwhile, David Griffin, from Druids Heath summed the city's people up succinctly.
"Brummies are Bostin'" he said.
