New board elected for Jordan Sport Information Federation [Jordan Times, Amman]
(Jordan Times, The Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 18--AMMAN -- The Jordan Sport Information Federation (JSIF) on Saturday elected a new board of directors during its general assembly meeting held at Beit Shabab in Amman.
The new 11-member board will carry the responsibility of facilitating the work of all sports journalists who are members of the JSIF, establish committees for various issues including defending the freedom of speech and organise the work of journalists during sporting events in addition to others.
The new board represents various media outlets working in the Kingdom and the winners are: Bilal Al Ghalayeeni, Muhammad Jamil Abdul Qader, Atef Assaf, Mohammad Qadri Hassan, Ashraf Majali, Awni Freij, Shibli Shatarat, Abdul Hafez Hroot, Manal Bazadogh, Ameera Abu Noor and Majed Osaili.
"A total of 110 members voted today and I am really happy to be part of the board. We are all colleagues and know each other very well and I don't believe that there is a winner or a loser because we are all like a family working for one message and that is to have the best sports coverage in Jordan," Bazadogh told The Jordan Times.
A total of 19 journalists including four women battled it out for a place in the 11-member board with many finding it a chance to express new ideas and a better future for the sports journalists working in various media outlets.
"It is a great day for sports journalism here in Jordan; all journalists gather under one roof to vote for their board members who will carry the flag for a better future in sports," Qadri Hassan said.
"We believe we have a chance to do something for the future of this profession and seeing all our colleagues voting makes me really happy and excited because at the end it is our passion and sports is our ultimate passion," he added.
Some members are planning to strengthen the relationship between the media and the JSIF, others looking for more training courses in journalism, but whatever they are seeking from their board they have to wait a while and see what the new board will deliver.
The JSIF has 121 members to date.
