Five new application-specific modules and additional features have been added to the simulation software Multiphysics 4.3b. The Multibody Dynamics module analyzes assemblies of rigid and flexible bodies, and can simulate transitional and rotational displacements for a variety of joint types. The Wave Optics module allows users to analyze electromagnetic wave propagation in structures such as optical fibers and sensors, bidirectional couplers, and plasmonic devices, among others. The Molecular Flow module simulates rarefied gas flow in complex CAD geometries of vacuum systems. The Semiconductor module enables the detailed analysis of semiconductor device operations at the fundamental physics level. The Electrochemistry module adds electroanalysis, electrolysis, and electro-dialysis capabilities. Further enhancements to the product suite speed CAD importing and geometry handling, and increase productivity.
Software Enables Gear Pump Selection
Pump-Flo Insight now includes a powerful gear-pump selector tool that allows users to search gear-pump attributes and hydraulic sizing data to select the most appropriate pump for their application. Users can narrow their search based on fluid type, pump type, flowrate, viscosity, differential pressure requirements, and other criteria. They can then sort selections based on pump model, series, and size; pump speed; hydraulic pressure; required horsepower; and flowrate. Once the appropriate pump has been selected, a price quote and bill of materials can be generated. All aspects of the pump can be configured with the tool, including the driver, motor, gears, bearings, shaft, mounting options, ports, relief valves, etc. The materials of construction for various components can also be specified.
Multivariate Data-Analysis Software Includes Several Updates
Version 10.3 of the Unscrambler X multivariate data-analysis and design-of-experiments (DoE) software has updated plotting tools and advanced sample selection techniques that enable better handling of process data. It includes exploratory data-analysis features, regression and classification methods, predictive modeling, and a DoE module. One of the key improvements in this version is better handling of process data, with the option for units and ranges to be defined and saved with PLSR, PCR, MLR, and PCA models. In the DoE module, the response surface plots have been enhanced to allow users to set optimization constraints and tune levels with slider controls, as well as to graphically optimize several responses simultaneously. Mobile App Eases Unit Conversions for Gases
The Easy Gas Converter smartphone app performs data-conversion calculations for 14 gas molecules, including nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen, from gaseous to liquid state. The app includes a unit calculator that converts weight, volume, pressure, energy, power, velocity, density, and specific energy, among other variables. Data conversions are available in both standard U.S. and metric systems. Users can share conversions through email, text message, Facebook, and Twitter with the app. All of the app's features, with the exception of sharing, are available with or without a network connection. The app is available for download for the iPhone in the iTunes App Store and for the Android in the Google Play store.
Improved Pipe-Stress Analysis Software Features a New Interface
The CAESAR II 2013 pipe-stress analysis software provides up-to-date codes and analysis tools, and enables advanced integration between engineering analysis and piping design. The software's updates include: an enhanced, user-friendly interface for SmartPlant 3D model import/export; new Japanese interface, seismic code, and spring hanger database capabilities; and updated ASME B31.3, B31.8, B31.9, and Z662 codes. It also features improved model manipulation, editing, and annotation capabilities, as well as improvements to standardize development and testing to meet ASME NQA-1 requirements. CAESAR II provides seamless integration with CADWorx, the company's AutoCAD-based plant design solution.
