Durham Tech Foundation board sets fundraising goal [The Herald-Sun, Durham, N.C.]
(Herald-Sun (Durham, NC) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 20--DURHAM -- The Durham Technical Community College Foundation will kick off a short fundraising campaign this fall to try to raise $45,000, the board of directors discussed in a meeting Tuesday afternoon.
The money they hope to collect between Sept. 19 and Oct. 4 will go toward scholarships, professional training for faculty and staff and new programs and cutting-edge technology, according to the DTCC Achievement Fund outline.
During DTCC President Bill Ingram's comments, he said that, within the past three years, DTCC has experienced a $1.5 million reduction in funding. He said he believes this is the first time they have sent out these fundraising packets since he assumed the role of president in 2008.
On top of that, "Many of our students come to us with significant challenges," Ingram said. "...We have to learn how to do better with the resources that we have, with both the processes and the people."
He added that the college needs to focus on preparing students for the careers of the future, giving the example that cloud computing and mobile app development were off-the-radar careers five to 10 years ago.
Ingram also said he recently met with Debra Saunders-White, N.C. Central University's new chancellor, to discuss further partnerships between the two institutions.
In other news, John P. Anderson was voted in as a board member Tuesday. Anderson has spent 29 years in the commercial banking industry and currently serves as Wells Fargo's market president for Chapel Hill and is a member of the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce board.
There are now 23 voting members on the DTCC Foundation board.
