Irvine 4th in U.S. finance jobs [The Orange County Register]
(Orange County Register (CA) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 21--Irvine is the fourth best city in the United States to find a finance job, according to a top 10 list compiled by Accounting Principals, a nationwide recruiter for accounting and finance professionals.
Dallas took the top spot, followed by Houston and San Francisco.
The firm based its rankings on a city's economic environment, volume of job openings in the past six months and internal data from the Accounting Principals' local branches. The report noted that the financial sector continues to improve as the economy recovers from the recession.
National unemployment in the finance and insurance industry dipped to 3.8 percent in July from the recession high of 7.8 percent in March 2010, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The overall unemployment rate was 7.4 percent in July.
"It's a great time to be a professional accountant," said John Schafer, vice president of California for Accounting Principals. "They're back in demand, and there's a shortage in the marketplace." He noted that support positions for finance workers are growing as well.
The Orange County market has seen steady hiring of finance professionals in property management, commercial construction and the service industry, Schafer said.
Schafer said accountants also have found work as the retail sector recovers and health care continues to be strong.
