Filing period closes Monday for SARA board election [San Antonio Express-News]
(San Antonio Express-News (TX) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 24--The filing deadline is Monday for candidates hoping to serve on the San Antonio River Authority's board of directors.
Five board slots with six-year terms will be on the Nov. 5 ballot, which also will include nine proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution and suburban and school ballot issues.
At least one of the SARA board's urban incumbents is seeking re-election, but so far nobody has filed for the other urban seat and for one of the seats representing Goliad County.
The board includes representatives from each of the four Commissioners Court precincts in Bexar County, along with at-large members from Wilson, Karnes and Goliad counties.
Up for election this year are Bexar County Districts 1 and 2, which have the same political boundaries as Commissioners Court Precincts 1 and 2, respectively.
District 1, which includes the San Antonio River's Mission Reach, is currently represented by N. Ruben Flores Perez. He'll face competition from Jerry G. Gonzales and Ricardo A. Martinez, both of San Antonio.
District 2 incumbent Roberto Rodriguez of San Antonio has not yet filed for re-election, and no other applications had been submitted by Friday.
Wilson County at-large member Darrell Brownlow of Floresville is seeking re-election, along with Karnes County at-large member Gaylon J Oehlke of Kenedy. No other candidates have come forward in those counties, and there were no candidates on file Friday for the at-large seat in Goliad County.
Deadline for filing is 5 p.m. Monday.
