HYETIS SMARTWATCH - THE ULTIMATE GEEK GIFT? [Week, The (Oman)]
(Week, The (Oman) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
If you thought fitting a 41MP sensor in a smartphone was impressive, wait till you see what Swiss watchmaker Hyetis has been up to. The Hyetis Crossbow smartwatch has a spec sheet that is just astonishing, and hope that this gadget is not just some geek's dream.
The watch has a Swissmade movement, which is the only thing that will remain constant, while the rest of the hardware will be constantly updated. To start off, the Crossbow will have a high resolution touch screen and will pair with your iOS, Android or Windows Phone handset over Bluetooth or WiFi. There is also Near Field Communications (NFC) on board and a microphone, just in case. At the 12 o'clock mark there's a, wait for it, 41MP camera with ZEISS lens. A biometric sensor is embedded in the wrist band, and the assembly also houses a GPS receiver, a barometer, a depth sensor (the watch is rated at up to 25atm/250m) and a thermometer.
It is not a mechanical watch, with two rechargeable bat teries powering the device, also embedded in the wrist band. The promised battery life is four days enough to show off this 'gadget', in every sense of the word and a regular watch battery powers the watch movement. The watch can be charged via wireless charging. The casing of the watch is titanium and the touchscreen on the face is sapphire glass with antiglare coating.
The Hyetis Crossbow will soon be available for pre order for US$1,200 and should ship later this year. Only 500 watches will be made initially, after which Hyetis will do a customizable version of the watch.
