(Oman News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) 1/ Telecommunications Services in Sultanate/ Statistics Muscat, Aug 24 (ONA) --- Subscribers of the fixed phone service in the Sultanate stood at (337,144) at the end of June 2013 against (304,545) at the end of December 2012, constituting a rise by (10.7%). Statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistic and Information (NCSI) pointed out that subscribers of billed fixed phone service in the Sultanate stood at (258,191) at the end of June 2013 against (225,922) subscribers at the end of 2012. Subscribers of pre-paid fixed phone service (Sahl) stood at (25,451) against (26,065) in 2012. The number of public phones all over the Sultanate stood at (6,801). The number of integrated services digital networks (ISDN) stood at (44,876) compared to (43,888) at the end of 2012.
The statistics also pointed out that the number of fixed telephone lines subscribers in the Governorate of Muscat stood at (161,361) by end of June 2013, followed by the Governorates of South and North Al Batinah (38,446), the Governorate of Dhofar (25,010), the Governorate of A'Dakhiliyah (21,320), the Governorates of South and North A'Sharqiyah (18,430), the Governorate of A'Dhahirah (8,195), the Governorate of Al Buraimi (6,976), the Governorate of Musandam (3,243) and the Governorate of Al Wusta (661).
Subscribers of billed and pre-paid GSM service stood at (5,422,101) at the end of June 2013 compared to (5,277,591) by the end of 2012, constituting a rise by (2.7%).
Subscribers of billed GSM service stood at (487,472) by the end of June 2013 against (464,670) during 2012, constituting a rise by (4.9%).
Subscribers of pre-paid GSM service rose by (2.5%) to (4,934,629) against (4,812,921) by the end of 2012.
The number of subscribers of phone internet service at the end of June 2013 stood at (4,860) compared to (6,074) during 2012, a decline by (20%), which include subscribers of billed service (4,577) and subscribers of pre-paid cards (283). Subscribers of fixed broadband service stood at (134,301) at the end of June 2013 compared to (113,324) at the end of 2012.
The total number of active subscribers in mobile broadband internet stood at (2,074,985) as at the end of June 2013 compared to (1,646,098) during 2012.
The number of leased internet lines subscribers stood at (3,677) as at the end of June 2013 compared to (3,681) in 2012.
2/ CBO Certificates of Deposit Tender Results Muscat, Aug 24 (ONA) --- Certificates of deposit tender was held at the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) this week. The total amount allotted for issue No. 830 was RO 574 million.
A bulletin issued by the CBO stated that the average interest rate of these certificates was 0.13% whilst the maximum accepted interest rate was 0.13%. The tenor of these certificates is 28 days, so their maturity date is on September 18th.
The certificates of deposit issued to licensed banks by the CBO as a monetary policy instrument aimed at absorbing excess liquidity at the banking sector in particular and maintaining stability of the interest rate and the money market in general.
The Repo rate during August 21st to 27th is 1%.
3/ 8th Oman Food & Hotel Fair 2013 Muscat, Aug 24 (ONA) --- The 8th edition of Oman Food and Hotel Fair will Kick-off at Oman International Exhibition Centre on September 2nd under the patronage of Ahmed bin Sulaiman al-Maimani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry for Financial and Administrative Affairs and Regions Affairs. The three-day fair will be organized by Oman Expo.
A number of local and international companies are keen to take part in this annual event to display the latest outcome of technology in the field of food and hotel, as well as foodstuff, beverages and equipment of hotel, in addition to equipment of kitchens and restaurants, packaging products, food packaging and techniques of food processing.
The fair will include pavilions of a number of countries, besides the participation of Oman Chefs Society (OCS).
Ammar Ahmed, Director of Oman Food & Hotel Fair 2013 explained that the Omani market enjoys a number of investment opportunities in this field and a gate for the leading companies.
It is worth mentioning that Oman Expo seeks to enhance the international participation, particularly the gulf and regional participation. The participation of the leading companies in this event will promote the role of the exhibition in upgrading the food and hotel industry, as well as paving the way for further cooperation between the Omani companies and the companies that will take part in the exhibition.
4/ OCCI to Organize Workshop on Trademark Muscat, Aug 24 (ONA) --- Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) will organize after tomorrow (Monday) a workshop on Trademark under the theme "Trademark: More than A Logo".
The German trainer Carla Geigel, who has a broad experience in the field of trademark, will lecture in the workshop.
The workshop will touch on characteristics, identity and management of trademarks, as well as benefits of investment in trademarks and responsibilities of management and trademarks in the exhibitions industry.
The two-day workshop aims at providing a comprehensive understanding for participants on various aspects related to this essential field, such as features and models of trademarks, how to set up and manage the successful trademark and the responsibility of trademarks inside the company among other relevant topics.
Ahmed bin Saleh Ba Abood, Head of the OCCI's Investment and Promotion Committee said that it is expected that a large number of entrepreneurs and those in-charge of industrial companies and factories at the Omani private sector will take part in the workshop.
