(Palm Beach Post (FL) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 02--A Wal-Mart employee was taken to the Palm Beach County Jail last week after the store's security officials say they caught him regularly stealing groceries for lunch and nabbing other random items from a laptop to bras.
Demetris Oneal, 21, of Greenacres, had been working at the Wal-Mart at 4545 Hypoluxo Road for five months and was under internal investigation there for the last two weeks, according to his arrest report.
Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies arrested Oneal Thursday after store officials said they caught him stealing three green towels. He faces retail theft and fraud charges. He was released from jail Friday after posting a $6,000 bond, according to jail records.
Once security suspected Oneal was stealing, they went through store security video and concluded he had stolen on nine occasions.
An example of some of the items he allegedly stole:
4 bras, 1 X-Box 360 controller, 1 soda, 1 bag beef jerky, 1 container carpet freshener, 1 pack vacuum bags, 1 pack of gum; total $70.81
2 packs crab meat, 3 bags prosciutto, 1 can Diet Coke, 2 bags Crab Flakes, 2 bags crab legs, 1 pack crab meat, 1 pack red dots; total $14.40
1 HP laptop computer, 2 backpacks, 2 JVC headphones, 1 bottled soft drink; total $433.84
2 soft drinks, 1 bag chips, 1 bottle mayonnaise, 1 sub sandwich, 1 Rice Krispy treat, 1 LCD scale; total $36.03
Total estimated loss: $637.10 of which $11.64 was recovered.
The store's loss prevention manager, Elgie Morton, told deputies that when confronted, Oneal told him the laptop computer was in Fort Lauderdale and "he may be able to get it back." Oneal refused to provide police with a statement, according to the arrest report.
