Abu Dhabi: Man suspected of stealing Dh180,000 referred to court [Gulf News (United Arab Emirates)]
(Gulf News (United Arab Emirates) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Abu Dhabi: A cable technician at a private company suspected of illegally carting away cables worth Dh180,000 was tracked using GPS gear installed in his vehicle.
The suspect worked at the Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC), a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, and was reported to have stolen the items from the company's power station.
Witnesses reported that the suspect had entered the power station and with the assistance of other men, proceeded to load the cables onto the company's pick-up truck. which he was using at the time of the alleged theft.
According to court documents, the suspect then fled the scene.
The ADDC proceeded to track the suspect using the GPS device installed in the vehicle.
In his defence, the accused told the Public Prosecution that he was just passing by the location and only entered the premises to use the restroom.
However, the Public Prosecution was not convinced by his argument and referred the case to the Criminal Court.
