Nokia to sell phone arm to Microsoft [Herald, The (Scotland)]
(Herald, The (Scotland) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Technology giant Microsoft is buying Nokia's mobile phone arm in a deal worth around pound(s)4.6 billion.
The world's biggest software company is also purchasing the use of Nokia's patents for 10 years.
The companies have been working together since February 2011 when Nokia's Lumia smartphone range ran on Microsoft software.
The deal is expected to close in early 2014 and see 32,000 Nokia staff transfer to Microsoft.
It is understood the firms have been negotiating since January.
