Mobilicity Denies Deal to Sell Customer Base to Rival [Global Data Point]
(Global Data Point Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Canada's struggling mobile network operator, Mobilicity has denied reports that it is looking to sell its 200,000 customer base to another smaller rival network, Wind Mobile.
Consolidation or takeovers of the smaller networks has been expected for some time, but Mobilicity's chief restructuring officer Bill Aziz said that a report about a subscriber deal with Wind Mobile isn't true.
The National Post had cited unidentified industry sources as saying that Mobilicity planned to shut down its money-losing operations by the end of September.
Wind Mobile has been named as a possible buyer of Mobilicity after a deal with Telus was blocked by the government.
The recent announcement by Verizon that it was losing interest in the Canadian market has also put pressure on the smaller operators to find an alternative backer.
