Coping with the internet's worst job
Sep 09, 2013 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --
Law enforcement bodies, nonprofit organisations and IT groups globally have dedicated teams who look at child pornography on the internet in a concerted effort to locate the sources and stop the perpetrators. At the Australian Communications & Media Authority (ACMA) in Sydney, 10 staff members carry out this demanding and often highly unpleasant task. Under a recently amended agreement with the Australian Federal Police, ACMA can directly inform the authorities in overseas jurisdictions where offensive images were posted. The agency is also increasingly surveying the private and peer-to-peer networks used by paedophiles who avoid the public part of the internet.
