BBC Cymru Wales to be home of Bargain Hunt
Sep 11, 2013 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) --
BBC Cymru Wales is to be home to one of the BBC's highest rating and most valued Daytime shows, Bargain Hunt.
As part of the BBC's ongoing commitment to growth across the nations, the production will move from its current Bristol base to its new home in Cardiff ready for the first full series of the show to be made in Wales from August 2014.
The production equates to 72 hours of network television annually, worth GBP2.4m. With its high volume of output, the BBC One series is recognised as a hothouse for growing new talent and skills, bringing extensive and valuable opportunities for career development within the Factual genre.
The move follows the appointment of Jeff Anderson as Head of Daytime for BBC Factual Production and the announcement of a new development team which he will lead, based in Cardiff.
Anderson, previously editor of BBC One's Watchdog, started his new role earlier this week, taking overall creative leadership for a portfolio of around 200 hours of in-house Daytime output as well as taking responsibility for all in-house development in the genre.
The new Daytime development team, based at BBC Wales' Llandaff HQ, will be tasked with growing the Daytime business across the slate. They will work on new ideas for programmes with the aim of shaping them into network commissions.
As Head of Daytime, Jeff Anderson will also be working closely with the BBC Wales teams who develop and deliver films to The One Show and produce Crimewatch Roadshow from Cardiff as well as working with Daytime production teams in Bristol, Belfast and London.
BBC Cymru Wales Head of Productions, Clare Hudson, said: "It's great news that Bargain Hunt is coming to Wales, joining a range of other key network output made here, including Crimewatch. Alongside Jeff Anderson's appointment to head up the BBC's pan-UK Daytime production from Cardiff, this move will further strengthen the creative opportunities for production talent based in Wales."
Jeff Anderson said: "Bargain Hunt is one of the cornerstones of the daytime schedule and it brings really fantastic opportunities for people working on it. Creating a new Daytime base at BBC Wales is an exciting moment - the team here has an impressive track record across genres and I'm looking forward to working together to grow the Daytime slate."
Notes to Editors
Bargain Hunt produces 96x45' shows for BBC One per annum -- equating to 72 hours in total.
The Bargain Hunt move is part of a closer working relationship between BBC Factual Production staff in Bristol and Cardiff, building a joined-up network production hub for Daytime, Features and Documentaries.
