Breckenridge Transit Division Enhances Service with New Website
Breckenridge, Colorado, Sep 11, 2013 (PRWeb.com via COMTEX) --
Earlier this year, the Town of Breckenridge Free Ride Transit System launched a new website, http://www.BreckFreeRide.com. The new website comes as a complete upgrade to the transit section that was once buried in the interior of the Town's website. It created a separate identity with the look and feel of Transit, while also maintaining some of the rich historic character of the community.
"With the development and launch of this new site, information about the Free Ride Transit System and its many services has become more accessible than ever before," shared Ann Brideau, the Town's Information Technology Coordinator.
"In working with the design team, our goal was to incorporate many of the transit industry best practices as recommended in the Transit Cooperative Research Program's TCRP Report 92 'Strategies for Improved Traveler Information'. It was important for us to achieve an end product that could take our customer service to the next level," said Transit Manager, Maribeth Lewis-Baker. "We wanted to make the most commonly used pieces of information available right from the home page so customers would not have to dig for what they were looking for."
"The site also needed to marry the availability of emerging transit technologies, such as an Interactive Schedule and a live Bus Tracker to display the GPS activity of buses on route," said Lewis-Baker. "We were able to expand the amount of information made available to our customers and since the launch, the community's response to the new site has been overwhelmingly positive."
The new website was created in partnership with Vision Internet, a government website development firm that has been leading the way in local government website design for over 17 years. The Vision Team is the same team that worked with Breckenridge to develop the Town website in 2008.
Some of the notable features of the new website include:
Live Twitter Feed & Transit specific News section
Redundant access to all commonly accessed items
Option to translate site using Google Translate
Seamless linking to the Bus Tracker
Seamless linking to the Interactive Schedule
Responsive Design with visionMobile(TM)
These advanced features of the new website are made possible by visionCMS(TM), a powerful content management system that makes it easy for multiple staff members to make updates to the website without highly technical backgrounds. The ease of use of visionCMS(TM) is a key part to the daily operations of the new site.
"Routes and services changes can happen at a moment's notice and updates to the website can't be too far behind," notes Brideau. "We've solved these problems by working responsive tools into the homepage design. Tools such as a live Twitter stream and easily updated XML-based route schedules keep the public informed and the staff unstressed."
"We are very pleased with the final website that we launched with Vision Internet," remarked Brideau. "Being able to utilize one CMS system for both the Town and Transit sites was a huge benefit. They're easy-to-use CMS and expert knowledge about local government website design has been a great help to the success of this project."
Vision Internet's advanced technology backs many public transit websites across the United States including Burbank Bus and the Antelope Valley Transit Authority.
