Celcom's Q2 revenue hits record RM2.01b [New Straits Time (Malaysia)]
(New Straits Time (Malaysia) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) KUALA LUMPUR: Celcom Axiata Bhd's secondquarter revenue has surpassed the RM2 billion mark for the first time to RM2.01 billion, from RM1.98 billion in the first quarter of 2013.
The telecommunications provider also saw a five per cent increase in net profit to RM577 million from the previous quarter's RM549 million.
Chief executive officer Datuk Seri Shazalli Ramly said the results were reinforced by better asset management, productivity improvement programmes and segmented, cost-efficient marketing initiatives.
"Through solid productivity improvement initiatives, more efficient marketing tools and asset sweating, we're now on track to achieve targets set by Axiata Group Bhd," he said at a briefing on the company's second-quarter results ended June 2013, here, yesterday.
Shazalli said Celcom will continue to focus on digital services underlined by a new venture into mobile personal entertainment through its new subsidiary, Escape Axiata Bhd, accompanied by its new e-commerce portals - Bachabooku, Buzzaar and The Crescent.
Bachabooku is its first e-book portal offering more than 700 electronic publications, including books and magazines from local authors and publishers.
The Crescent offers Islamic infotainment and lifestyle services, while Buzzaar is an online marketplace that facilitates trading of specialty products by homegrown entrepreneurs for the local market.
Shazalli said the group aims to secure one million customers via the three portals by end-2014.
He said Celcom's 4G deployment plan is set to reach 30 per cent of the population by the end of second-quarter 2014, covering 33 strategic districts nationwide, including the Klang Valley, Johor Baru and Penang.
"We will be spending RM420 million of our capital expenditure budget to enhance our 4G deployment," he added.
