BRIEF: Army: Third parties can't access Shield app info [The Daily Star, Beirut, Lebanon]
(Daily Star, The (Beirut, Lebanon) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 13--BEIRUT -- The Army Command said Thursday that information registered by the Army Shield mobile application could not be accessed by a third party.
The Army released the clarification in response to "questions posed by citizens" concerning the smartphone application which was launched on Aug. 30.
"Citizens have welcomed the idea [of the application] and it has been downloaded numerous times, breaking records and making it one of the top 10 mobile applications in the country," it said.
The Army noted that the application "aims to improve the efficiency of the security forces and ensure its speedy intervention to protect citizens by involving them in the investigative process."
The statement emphasized that "the information [gathered by the application] can't be used by a third party, since the application's server was based at the Army Command headquarters, and was under its direct supervision."
