Russian mobile operator VimpelCom, China Telecom sign deal to join networks [IntelliNews - Weekly Reports]


(IntelliNews - Weekly Reports Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Mobile telecom provider VimpelCom operating in Russia under the Beeline trademark has inked an agreement with Chinese state-owned telecommunications company China Telecom on the establishment of a direct network inter-connection, news service Telecompaper.com reported.



The inter-connection will allow international links from China and other Asian countries to be made with Russia and the US. It will also improve the access to European and Asian internet resources and carry out direct voice traffic exchanges, the report read.

VimpelCom is Russia's third largest mobile telecom provider with a market share of 24% as of end-June 2013. Net IFRS profit of VimpelCom went up by 17% y/y to USD 573mn in Q2/13, the company has said earlier.
