Ottawa Entrepreneur has Winning Combination: Sports + Social = DropInSports.ca
OTTAWA, Sep. 16, 2013, 2013 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --
Technology and human interaction: More and more people are using social media to connect than ever before.
The interesting thing is that although these technologies are designed
to increase communication, they are resulting in reducing face to face
interaction with people. Going to bars or joining a dating site to meet
single people are not everyone's preferred choice. As a result, we see
sites offering meet-up groups emerging which are attempting to bring
back that human interaction. DropInSports.ca is designed to accomplish
that goal as well by creating an environment where being the newcomer
is expected and accepted - as everyone was the newcomer at some point. Furthermore, since the teams
are different every week, there is no exclusive group that forms
allowing for more of an all-inclusive community. While social media is
used with DropInSports.ca, it is used as an information hub - as a means to promote human interaction and not replace it.
Ottawa entrepreneur, Christiano Ferraro has created an exciting new
venue for adults who love to play sports and connect with others who
share the same interest.
DropInSports.ca is perfect for those who want to play a team sport such
as dodgeball or volleyball at a reasonable cost, but don't want the
typical structured commitment of joining a conventional team. You pick
the time that is convenient for you - it's play and pay as you go or
get a season's pass. It's also a great way to meet new people and
develop new friendships both during and after the game.
Christiano explains, "The key is to set the precedent on the social
experience before, during and after the game. This encourages
participants, both new and existing, to socialize as a community -
rather than pairing off with only people that they know and doing their
Everyone starts by dropping in for the first time and new faces are
expected to be there on any given day - this puts all participants on
an equal playing field.
Teams are decided by an on-site facilitator who splits the teams based
on skill level and deliberately randomizes who plays together week to
week which encourages more interaction with different people.
After the game, team members can kick back at the local pub where they
are treated to reserved seating areas and special discounts
pre-arranged by DropInSports.ca for a perfect evening of fun in a
friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
DropInSports.ca has three convenient locations across the city,
depending on the game - Ottawa East, West and South. Visit the website
for game times and locations.
The online registration process ensures that no one will be turned away
because of overbooking and there is a "Vote for Sports" page where
members can vote to implement additional sports such as Badminton,
Basketball and Floor Hockey. It takes 30 votes to implement the desired
sport. By the summer of 2014, Christiano expects to offer soccer,
ultimate, touch football and possibly beach volleyball.
As Christiano sums it up: "We are here to provide an environment for
adults to enjoy the sports they are passionate about and connect with
others that have that same passion. Our goal is to do so in the most
convenient and enjoyable way possible for the participants."
