Software skill levels are on the rise [Northeast Region] [Daily Post (Liverpool, England)]
(Daily Post (Liverpool, England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) SKILL levels are rising rapidly as Wales' electronics and software firms move steadily up the economic value chain and produce more complex products and services, according to a new study.
Initial results from the 2013 Skills Survey of ESTnet, the Electronic and Software Technologies Network for Wales, indicate that a significant number of directors and managers within the industry now have post-graduate qualifications.
Many companies surveyed in the sector in Wales have also established relationships with universities, with 35% involved in joint research and development projects and 20% in Knowledge Transfer Partnerships.
Chairman of the ESTnet, Ian Menzies of General Dynamics, said the preliminary figures from the study underlined the increasing sophistication of these industries in Wales, which now encompass 520 companies, employing nearly 24,000 people and generating Pounds 7 billion in turnover annually.
He added: "This is even more impressive when we consider how these industries in Wales underpin innovation and new product development across many different markets, including advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and financial."
