Event to share tips on Internet safety
Staples retail store will host "Deter, Detect, Defend: Keeping Our Children and Our Identity Safe" from 4-6 p.m. Monday at 742 New Los Angeles Ave.
The Ventura County Sheriff's Office and the Moorpark VIPs will help provide information. Residents will be able to speak one-on-one with experts who can advise them on how to avoid problems online.

Professor to discuss Australians in film
The Simi Valley Public Library will celebrate film with Luda Popenhagen, professor of performing arts at CSU Channel Islands. The program will go from 6-7:30 p.m. Friday in the community room.
Popenhagen will discuss the ongoing success of Australian actors actresses in the U.S. movie industry.

Documentary shows performance artist
The Arts Council of the Conejo Valley's film studio program, in collaboration with California Lutheran University's multimedia department, will screen the film "Marina Abramovic -- The Artist is Present" at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Preus-Brandt Forum in the Pearson Library on the college campus, 60 W. Olsen Road.
The documentary examines performance artist Marina Abramovic.
A reception before the film screening will feature gourmet chocolate tasting.
The screening is free for CLU faculty and students. The general public may reserve a seat at https://commerce.cashnet.com/clumulti.
Synagogue to mark beginning of garden
Temple Etz Chaim will host a groundbreaking for a community garden and bird sanctuary at noon Sunday at 1080 Janss Road.
The garden will be maintained by Temple Etz Chaim and the United Methodist Church. The bird habitat will be an environment set up with the Conejo Audubon Society.
The public is welcome and may come at 9 a.m. to help begin the clearing of phase one. Guests should bring shovels or use ones provided. For more information, call 497-6852.
Event will focus on breast cancer
"Paint the Town Pink" will go from 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday in The Oaks Center Court, near Nordstrom. The evening supports breast cancer awareness and education.
Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Cost includes one free cocktail, appetizers and desserts, a silent auction and participation from vendors.
All proceeds will benefit Cancer Support Community Valley/Ventura/Santa Barbara.

Actress to portray Anne Frank in show
The Conejo Valley Guild of the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation will have a lunch at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 2 at the Westlake Village Inn, 31943 Agoura Road.
Martha Abbey Miller will portray Anne Frank.
