Mayor names chief information officer for Lexington [Lexington Herald-Leader]
(Lexington Herald-Leader (KY) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 26--Mayor Jim Gray on Thursday named Aldona K. Valicenti Lexington's Chief Information Officer, a role she defined during the administration of Gov. Paul Patton as the state's first CIO.
"Aldona has a deep understanding of the role of information technology in government and will help us move the ball forward in our drive to make government more transparent and more efficient," Gray said in a release.
Since leaving state government, Valicenti has served as vice president of consulting services at CGI, an international information technology firm, and as vice president of business development and strategy for Oracle Corp., the world's largest enterprise software company.
Gray said Valicenti's project list includes a review of systems, software and operations to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for innovation. She plans to meet with employees and council members to discuss goals and vision for technology services.
She also plans development of a strategic plan with short- and long-term goals to improve government's ability to meet the needs of citizens through technology.
Valicenti, who lives in Lexington, holds a master's degree from Wayne State University in Detroit.
In 2001, Valicenti was recognized as a "Public Official of the Year" by Governing magazine and in 2003 was named CIO of the Year by Greater Louisville Inc.
In addition she has been President of the National Association of State Chief Information Officers, NASCIO, and is still active in the organization. She has testified in Congress advocating for state technology issues and has advised a number of states and governors on the CIO role and organization of the CIO office. Most recently she has been a representative for CGI on the TechAmerica Cloud Computing study.
