Macy's announces plans to hire 83,000 seasonal associates during 2013 holiday season
Oct 01, 2013 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) --
US retailing company Macy's Inc (NYSE:M) on Monday announced plans to hire seasonal associates for approximately 83,000 positions at its Macy's and Bloomingdale's stores, call centres, distribution centres and online fulfilment centres nationwide for the 2013 holiday season.
This 2013 seasonal hiring plan by the company is a 3.8% increase over approximately 80,000 hired in 2012.
According to the company, its aim is to be well-staffed to welcome and serve customers throughout the busy holiday season, whether they are shopping or buying in stores, online or via mobile devices.
Seasonal associates at Macy's and Bloomingdale's serve customers on the selling floor, work in store operations positions, interact with customers via the telephone in call centres. They also staff the distribution and fulfilment centres that coordinate shipments to stores and directly to customers who buy online, Macy's said.
Reportedly, the seasonal workforce has grown in recent years in the company's network of online fulfilment centres in support of increased sales generated by the company's Omnichannel business strategy. In 2013, approximately 6,600 of the 83,000 total seasonal positions will be based in the four online fulfilment centres. Also, approximately 1,200 seasonal positions will be assigned to work in the fulfilment areas of the 500 Macy's stores that are equipped to fill and ship orders directly to customers.
Currently Macy's employs about 175,700 associates on a year-round basis.
