ALEXANDRIA, Va., Oct. 1 -- Sony, Tokyo, has been assigned a patent (8,544,111) developed by Peter Shintani, San Diego, and Ludovic Etienne Douillet, Escondido, Calif., for "activating licensable component provided by third party to audio video device."
The abstract of the patent published by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office states: "An audio-video display device can download from a third party server a licensable component on which a royalty is to be paid. Various methods are disclosed for accounting for royalties associated with downloading the licensable component to the client device between the third party server and a client device manufacturer server."
