World Breastfeeding Week: 1 to 7 October 2013 - Public health close to mothers
MONTREAL, Oct. 1, 2013, 2013 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) --
"Breastfeeding: Let's talk about
it". For the tenth year in a row, the Direction de santé publique (DSP)
de l'Agence de la santé et des services sociaux de Montréal is
celebrating World Breastfeeding Week, as do170 countries around the
world. The theme: Let's talk about it.
This year, public health is providing platforms where mothers and
fathers can give their opinion on this issue; the DSP wants to hear
what they have to say and give parents an opportunity to discuss with
experts in breastfeeding.
The public can share happy moments or difficulties on blogs, live chat
rooms, Facebook and Twitter.
The DSP's campaign Web page is another example of the place given to the
public this year. There are video clips of moms and dads answering the
-- Why is breastfeeding important to you?
-- What are the day-to-day challenges of breastfeeding?
-- Who helped you during this period?
Different life courses but similar answers when it comes to dealing with
daily challenges, the uncharted territory of new experiences or the
love parents have for their newborn baby.
Every year, many groups and organizations are involved in World
Breastfeeding Week. There are numerous activities throughout the city,
thanks to the enthusiastic participation of health institutions (Health
and Social Service Centres and hospitals) and community groups who work
with moms all year round.
