'There has never been a better time to join the college' [Grimsby Telegraph (UK)]
(Grimsby Telegraph (UK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) WOULD-be students can find out more about John Leggott College in Scunthorpe when it holds its first open evening of the academic year.
The West Common Lane campus will welcome young people and their parents to discover more about the range of courses on offer.
The college is among the partners in the Scunthorpe Telegraph's Your Life, Your Future campaign.
The initiative aims to increase employment and training opportunities throughout North Lincolnshire, as well as raising aspirations. More than 60 courses are on offer at the college.
And the open evening, on Wednesday (October 9) will provide a chance to find out more about what is available.
It will be especially of interest to people currently in year 11 at school, although anybody interested in studying at the college is welcome to attend. John Leggott College marketing manager Chanel Hosfield said: The open evening really is the best way for prospective students and their parents to find out about the huge range of opportunities available to them at John Leggott College and seek advice which will allow them to make informed decisions. Applications for study at the college from September 2014 open straight after the open evening. So we are encouraging people to start considering their options early in the year so they have the best chance of securing places on their first choice courses.
John Leggott College students celebrated record-breaking A-Level results this year, with a 99 per cent pass rate and 50 per cent of grades at A* to B. We have also got Pounds 5 million of new facilities which have opened in recent years, so there has never been a better time to join the college.
The open evening will run from 5pm to 9pm, with demonstrations set to take place in each subject area.
Current students will be on hand to talk about college life and staff will be able to answer questions on courses, bus routes, financial assistance and destinations.
Visitors can also find out how a mix of A-Levels and BTEC qualifications can help students follow their ambitions and pursue their dream career. Current students at the college said open evenings proved helpful to them when deciding where to study.
Student union vice-president John Freeman said: I came to John Leggott College open events two years ago and found them a really helpful way of gathering a lot of infor mation.
They give you the opportunity to experience the scale of the college and the breadth of opportunities available.
Fellow student Louise Spencer said: The open events are not just about the courses available, but a chance to see the learning spaces, speak to teachers and find out what current students enjoy about college.
