NAMES Frank H. Wright IV, senior vice president of Capitol Federal Savings Bank in Topeka, has been named to succeed Joe Aleshire as executive vice president. Aleshire retired Sept. 30 after more than 40 years of service to Cap Fed and its customers. He served in all three of Capitol Federal's regions -- Eastern, Southern and Central - - and in both the lending and retail divisions. Aleshire also served on several community boards and committees. Wright joined Capitol Federal in 1970 and served in several positions prior to being promoted to senior vice president of retail banking and electronic banking in 1996.

NEW FACES Alap P. Shah, cardiologist, has joined the staff at Cotton- O'Neil Heart Center in Topeka. Shah received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2004 and completed an internship at the University of Texas-Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas in 2006. He completed an internal medicine residency at the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver in 2007, and went on to complete a fellowship in cardiovascular disease followed by a fellowship in clinical cardiac electrophysiology in 2011. Shah currently is accepting new patients.


James Novak has joined the team of physicians at the Stormont- Vail Emergency and Trauma Center in Topeka. Novak, a Topeka native, received his medical degree at The University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City in 2010, and completed a residency program in emergency medicine at Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago earlier this year.

Thomas Alderson II has joined the staff of physicians at the Cotton-O'Neil Nephrology practice in Topeka. Alderson received his medical degree from The University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City in 2007, and completed a residency in internal medicine at Vanderbilt University in Nashville in 2010. He completed a fellowship in nephrology at The University of Kansas Medical Center earlier this year. Alderson currently is accepting new patients.

RECOGNITION John Johnston, executive director of the Topeka Housing Authority, recently was named Affordable Housing Trail Blazer during the 2013 Kansas Housing Conference in Lawrence. Johnston, who has more than 40 years of experience in the affordable housing industry, was honored for his role in developing safe, energy efficient, affordable housing serving low-income residents in Topeka.

Curt Wright, vice president of Taylor Oil in Wellsville, recently received the 2013 Distinguished Service Award from the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association of Kansas. The award is presented annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to the betterment of the petroleum industry and his local community. Wright has been a member of the board of directors of PMCA for many years, and served as PMCA president in 2000 and 2012.

Callahan Creek, a Lawrence-based marketing communications agency with an office in Topeka, has been named the top agency in Kansas by Adweek. The selection was based on "a combination of head count, notable clients, legacy and reputation," according to a news release.

ELSEWHERE Shania Dekat has joined the staff of Housing and Credit Counseling as manager and lead counselor for HCCI's office in Manhattan. Dekat previously was self-employed with SK Imaging Photography and as a loan processor for Community First National Bank. She also was an assistant manager at Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
