LG unveils world's first Curved OLED TV [Gulf Times (Qatar)]
(Gulf Times (Qatar) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) By Sumit Sengupta/Dubai LG Electronics yesterday unveiled the world's first Curved OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) television during a ceremony held at GITEX Shopper in Dubai World Trade Centre.
The ceremony, which also featured the official unveiling of the LG G2 smartphone, was attended by Dubai Culture and Arts Authority chairman Sheikh Majid bin Mohamed bin Rashid al-Maktoum and a host of senior LG officials, including DY Kim, president of LG Electronics, Gulf FZE.
During the ceremony, Sheikh Majid was given an overview of the features of both the Curved OLED TV and the G2. The highlights of the uniquely-shaped 55-inch Curved OLED TV include high-quality contrast, motion clarity and a display that remains consistent irrespective of the viewing angle.
The company also took the opportunity to showcase its Ultra HD TV.
"The home entertainment sector is fuelled by constant change and growth with new products entering the market every day. LG is committed to lead that growth, offering the latest and innovative entertainment products to enhance your entertainment experience," said Kim. "We're in a strong market position globally, carving out a reputation of delivering technology solutions that matter to you. The user experience with both the curved OLED TV and the LG G2 is unique to anything else in the market right now. Our main goal was and is to deliver products that make life better for you." Asked when the Curved OLED TV will be available in Qatar, C V Rappai, director and general manager of Jumbo Electronics, said it will hit the local market within two months and pre-bookings will start shortly. He added that only one model - 55 inches - is being introduced this year and more are expected to be launched early next year.
Spanning a total of 77 inches diagonally, the largest Curved HD OLED screen features an IMAX-like curvature that fills the viewer's field of vision more completely than a flat-screen TV. It combines LG's WRGB OLED and Ultra HD technologies, enabling it to produce infinite contrast ratio and resolution four times greater than regular Full HD. The design of the television won the Red Dot Design: Best of the Best Award in March, followed by multiple quality and performance awards from TÜV Rheinland and Intertek, to name a few.
The Full Ultra HD OLED TV line-up will be available for consumers in 2014.
The company has said it will develop a range of industry-leading OLED TVs, including the wall-mountable Gallery OLED TV. Besides, the new premium 55- and 65-inch Ultra HD TVs were on display at GITEX Shopper and would be in stores across over 50 countries by the end of 2014.
The ceremony was marked by a performance by Drumcats, an all-female Korean band whose music set the tone for the unveiling of the Curved OLED TV and the G2 and entertained the crowd that had gathered at the stand.
