Culture Minister receives International Delegation [Bahrain News Agency]
(Bahrain News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Manama, Oct, 6 (BNA) – Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Culture, Chairperson of Board of Directors of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage (ARCWH), today received an international delegation interested with protection of cultural heritage to discuss topics of heritage preservation in the Arab region.
The delegation included ARCWH's Director Dr. Mounir Bouchenaki, , Director of the UNESCO Office in Doha Engineer Anna Pauline, the Regional Director of the International Centre for the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property in the Sharjah of United Arab Emirates Eng. Zaki Aslan, Representative of the Arab Region for World Heritage Centre (ARWHC) Karim Hindeli, a cultural heritage specialist of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage Dr. Kamal Al-Bitar.
The Cultural Minister lauded the ARWHC's effective contribution efforts to the protection of natural and cultural heritage in the Arab region, underlined the importance of protecting the Arab heritage to pass on to future generations, noting this coordinative meeting aims to consolidate regional and international efforts to preserve archaeological sites in the region. The meeting, which was held under the patronage of the Minister of Culture and the presidency of Dr. Bouchenaki, reviewed the projects and workshops organized by the ARCWH on the heritage that were held past September.
The meeting also reviewed the ARCWH's tireless efforts focused on the historic city of Zabid in Yemen in line with the agreement signed between Minister of Culture and Yemeni Ambassador Dr. Abdulla Oubil.
Dr. Bouchenaki underscored the ARWHC's keenness to follow up on all Arab heritage sites and taking responsibility to protect these sites.
The meeting also agreed to submit to the ARWHC's Advisory Committee and the Administrative Council, in next November, a recommendation on organizing a meeting in Manama by UNESCO World Heritage Centre for all those responsible for sites of cultural heritage in the Arab region.
