BRIEF: HP Israel firing 30 [Globes, Tel Aviv, Israel]
(Globes (Tel Aviv) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 06--HP Israel is to dismiss 30 employees at its software development center in Yehud. This is however a tiny fraction of the company's 6,500-strong workforce in Israel.
HP Israel stated in response to the report, "In May 2012, HP published its plans for raising efficiency, improving business processes, and promoting innovation in the company. This plan included the company's activity in Israel. The plan will not affect customer service. Customers will be able to continue using all the company's products and services at the same standard of service and quality to which they have become accustomed. As always, our customers continue to be the focus of our activity. The company is bolstering its commitment to provide innovative solutions in every country in which it operates, and affirms that its activity in Israel is an important asset for it."
Last month, it was reported that HP had laid off 22,700 employees around the world by July, as part of its multi-year streamlining program aimed at cutting costs. The company plans to lay off 29,000 employees by the 2014 fiscal year, and estimates that the move will cost $3.6 billion.
