Simons named CEO at AdvancePierre Foods [Enid News & Eagle, Okla.]
(Enid News & Eagle (OK) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 05--ENID, Okla. -- AdvancePierre Foods announced this past week the appointment of John N. Simons Jr. as president and chief executive officer and member of the board of directors.
Simons brings more than 20 years of food, agribusiness and consumer products experience to the Cincinnati-based company.
"John's long track record of fostering high-performing, customer-focused and innovative cultures, through building world-class organizational capabilities and driving growth across a number of enterprises make him the right leader for AdvancePierre Foods at this point in its evolution," said Dean Hollis, chairman of the board. "In his new role as president and chief executive officer, John will be responsible for leading AdvancePierre in the next phase of its journey to become the premier value-added protein and sandwich producer in the marketplace."
Simons, 52, has led businesses with revenues ranging from $30 million to $10 billion. He served as president and CEO of Swift & Company, a $10 billion global red meats processing company. Simons also was president and COO of several divisions of Conagra Foods, and earlier in his career, he spent nearly a decade in executive positions at Cargill.
Most recently, he founded Fir Hill Ventures, advising beef industry producers on developing profitable international growth strategies.

Simons earned bachelor's degrees in economics and political science from Stanford University, as well as a master of business administration degree from the Harvard Business School. He was a member of the 1980 United States Olympic swim team.
Paul Allen and David McLaughlin founded Advance Food Co. in Enid July 31, 1973, and successfully built their food business over the subsequent years. In 2010, Advance Food merged with Pierre Foods to create AdvancePierre Foods. AdvancePierre produces and distributes a full line of packaged sandwiches, fully cooked chicken and beef products, Philly-style steak, stuffed chicken breasts and bakery products.
