Right turn for unity in quest for redemption
Oct 13, 2013 (The Australian Financial Review - ABIX via COMTEX) --
Bill Shorten has beaten Anthony Albanese to win the leadership of the Australian Labor Party. While in the rank-and-file party members' vote the latter gained 60%, Shorten managed to secure 63.95% in the equally-weighted Caucus vote. In order to achieve this, he had to convince seven fellow MPs to support him, in addition to those in his Right faction. This bodes well for party unity, but Shorten must also attract voters back to Labor with more than just rhetoric on lofty policy ideas.
